One of the reasons that roulette is such a popular game is that players have many different options when it comes to betting on the winning pocket.
Plus, you are not confined to just one option. You can mix things up as you play.
For instance, at the start of play, you may wish to place just one bet at a time.
Next time, you may prefer to spread your chips all over the roulette table.
Both options are fine, and depend entirely on your preference.
There are two main types of bets for European Roulette: when you play European Roulette you can choose inside bets, and outside bets.
Outside bets
These are the most common and straightforward bets in the popular game of roulette.
Here, your bet backs the winning number as red or black, or as odd or even. These bets are those that you place apart from the 36 numbers on the inside of the table. You have a 50% chance of winning on both bets, so the payout is one to one.
Another option for outside bets is called column bets.
This allows you to bet on one of the three columns of 12 that the roulette table is broken into. That way, if the white ball ends up in one of those pockets in the column you have bet on, you win. So, your odds of being right are one in three, and the payout is two to one.
Similar to column bets is the betting option called Dozen. However, your bet includes the first 12 numbers, the middle 12 numbers, or the last 12 numbers on the table.
You can also split the table in two and place your bet on the winning number should it fall between 1-18 or 19-36. Should the ball fall within the half you have bet on, you get a 1 to 1 payout.
Finally, the last option for outside bets is something called the Basket Bet. Here, you place a chip on the single zero common to European roulette (if you were playing American roulette it would be on the green double zero). This allows you to bet on the numbers zero, one, two, and three, all at once.
Inside bets
With inside bets, you place your chips directly on a specific number, or a group of numbers.
There are several options if you opt for these bets when gambling online or in gambling houses for European roulette.
When casino players choose a straight up bet, it allows gamblers to bet on one single number to win. This is a high-risk gamble, but produces the biggest payout of all the roulette bets, with a payload of 35 to 1. This is true for real money casino games as well as land-based casinos.
Another option you as a gambler can make is the split bet. Here, you choose to back two side-by-side numbers with one bet. To do this, you simply place your chip on the dividing line. When gambling with a split bet, casinos will payout 17 to 1.
A third bet option is called the quad bet. This allows you to select up to four numbers at once. To do this, you will place your chip on a corner that is shared by all four numbers. The real money casino game or land-based casinos payout your winnings at 8 to 1.
Bettors can also bet on any row of numbers with street bets, also known as a line bet or row bet. Here, bettors place a chip over the first number of the row on the line that divides the row from the outside area. Casinos payouts are 11 to 1.
The last option is a Double Street Bet. Here, players come back to two rows of numbers. They place their chip on the line that divides the first numbers of each row, and that separates them from the outside area. If you use a double street bet, the payout is 5 to 1.
The Roulette Racetrack
Many online roulette games, including those safe gaming sites found on CasinoRank, allow gamers to bet on the racetrack. Instead of the normal round table, the numbers are laid out in an oval, similar to a race track.
In this way, gamblers can easily bet on an alternative set of numbers that flank each other. For example, the gambler can place a split bet on 32 and 20 with the racetrack option, while, on the traditional table, 32 would be in the middle of 31 and 33. So, this gives online gamers even more options when it comes to gambling online.
If the White Ball Lands on Zero
The house wins all of the outside bets as well as all of those placed on the 36 other numbers if the ball lands at zero (or double zero in American roulette). That is, unless you have placed your chip on the zero, or placed a basket bet.
